After almost a week in Indiana, I took the kids up to Michigan. We spent a night with Mema in Detroit. The next day, we took the kids to the Detroit Zoo! We had never been and had a few hours to kill before Daddy's flight came in from Austin.
It also happened to be August 8th, Evan's birthday!
First stop was to board the train to the back of the zoo to work our way forward.
Another train ride for this guy... All Aboard!
Evan got to wear a special button that said "It's my Birthday today!".
We njoyed seeing all the animals and walking around.
The highlights were the close encounters with all the various animals - something the Detroit Zoo does a great job with.
Look, the prarie dogs had a new friend in their burrows!
Then we watched seals swim over our heads.
We got to see the polar bear up close (unfortunately, not in the water).
And of course we had to take the picture of the Wolverine for daddy. Go Blue!
It was a fantastic morning at the zoo (even if by the end, the kids were a little tired of all the walking). I was glad to finally get to see it after hearing many friends talk about it. A great way to start the day for the birthday boy as well! After that, we had lunch and picked up Daddy at the airport. It had been a just over a week since we had seen him so it was good to have the whole family together again.
After that, we did go spend a few hours with our friends the Wolfs! They had us all over for a delicious dinner, and we had a great time catching up. It's always such a short visit but better than nothing I suppose! Thanks for having us!
And our attempt at getting all 5 kids (now would be 6 with Isla) together for a picture. Thanks again for a wonderful evening!
The kids played soccer in the backyard and had the pool to splash in
Ryan enjoyed the sand box
