We left Michigan and headed to Oakland, CA to begin the 2nd half of our vacation. My college roommate Katy and her husband Rob were gracious enough to let us stay with them for one night. We ate some delicious pizza for dinner, then Rob took Evan and Bryce on a quick train ride on the BART. Evan was so excited about that. Then, we hung out at their house for a bit before eventually hitting the hay. It was so fun to see them and have them see the kids (they last saw them a year ago). I think the kids provided quite a bit of entertainment for them and Caitlin loved getting into their cupboards... I'm pretty sure they found a TV remove in a random place after we left!
From there, we met up with the Greenbergs and Daniel and caravaned up the coast to Redwoods National Park. The drive was absolutely beautiful. We passed tons of vineyards and drove through gorgeous hills. On the way, we stopped at Patrick's Point State Park which is close to Redwoods and on the Pacific. Here, we got out of the car and took a hike down to the tidal pools.
Happy to be out of the car and ready for the first hike of the trip
We saw starfish
And more starfish

After we climbed back up the hill, we saw some seals on the other side of the point
And here we were ready to do another hike, but after looking at the time, we decided we better get some dinner and to our cabins before it was too late. Still, a great first day in California!
