While my mom was in town, we had a day that was pretty empty so I suggested taking the kids on the Metro Rail downtown. It's been on my list of things to do for about a year and it finally seemed like a good time. So, here's a blog about our fabulous trip!
For those unaware, the Metro Rail is a light rail line that runs from NW Austin to downtown. We caught the train at the Howard Station in North Austin. Buying tickets was a little more complicated than I imagined but we made it on nonetheless.
Off we go!
Caitlin wanted to wear her "crown". Unfortunately, she left it at Starbucks downtown later in the morning.

The train ride was actually fairly quick and the kids LOVED it. As soon as we got off the train, we started walking, nowhere in particular. Immediately, we saw a fire station where firefighter Brian was washing the truck so we of course went over to say hello.
He couldn't have been nicer! He talked to the kids, gave them stickers, and even took some pictures.

After that, we saw a Starbucks and decided some Lattes were in order...
Then we walked down towards the river. On our way back from the river, guess who we found?? The horse patrol! The kids were very excited to say hi to the police officers and pet the horses (who enjoyed taking a break to eat some grass). They were very nice... I guess it was public safety day downtown!
After that, we headed back to the train station. The only bad thing about the metro rail is that it runs very infrequently (once an hour) so you definitely do NOT want to miss it.

And that was our fun morning riding the Metro Rail. Definitely something I'd do again with them.
